Transforming ITS to Enable the Smart Cities Evolution

This session will describe how ITS platforms can be enhanced, modified, and evolved to support the functionality essential to the smart city of tomorrow. To date, a great deal of ITS has focused on vehicle mobility (cars, trucks, transit, buses) and safety, with less emphasis on pedestrians, bicyclists, and curb management. Learn how ITS can be broadened to support other necessary smart cities applications, needs, and verticals.

“Super Cruise – a Hands Free Advanced Driver Assistance System”

Super Cruise™, the industry’s first true hands-free driving technology, for the highway, is designed to promote safety and convenience. Unlike other driver assistance systems, Super Cruise™ utilizes two advanced technology systems — a driver visual attention management system and a precision LiDAR map data combined with a connected high precision GPS and real time data from a network of cameras and radars, provides a data-rich approach to driver assistance — to ensure safe and confident vehicle operation. Super Cruise™ delivers comfort and convenience for long-distance travels and daily commutes. The driver visual attention management system supports hands free driving to help reduce driver workload, stress and safely complete common tasks in the car, such as using the navigation system, adjusting the audio system or taking a phone call.

Next Gen TV: New Bandwidth for Intelligent Transportation and Public Safety

A major new source of bandwidth for intelligent transportation is coming from – TV broadcasters! Next Generation Television, based on the all-IP ATSC 3.0 standard and approved by the FCC last November, will be the most advanced digital broadcast transmission system in the world. The Advanced Warning and Response Network (AWARN) will provide geo-targeted, rich media alerts to TV sets, smartphones, and connected cars, even if the cell network is jammed and the grid is down. Spectrum Co is a consortium of leading broadcasters that is creating infrastructure and systems to provide a range of advanced services in support of 21st century transportation systems. This session is for infrastructure providers, vehicle manufacturers, OEM’s, and emergency responders and managers looking for smart, low-cost telecom solutions.

John Lawson, Executive Director, AWARN Alliance
John Hane, President and CEO of Spectrum Co.

V2I Safety Applications System in Real World Conditions

Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications is the wireless exchange of critical data between vehicles and road-side infrastructure for the purpose of enabling safety applications and operational efficiencies. The V2I communication system is intended primarily for improving safety of motor vehicles, while enabling a wide range of mobility and environmental benefits. V2I applications can assist drivers in specific scenarios by providing additional information which may trigger an alert or warning for taking appropriate action. This presentation provides an overview of V2I systems, and presents real world applications including Red Light Violation Warning and Work Zone.

Smarter, safer, faster: A digital approach to transforming roadways

More and more people are on the move. Vehicles are getting smarter, while roads are becoming connected. To prepare for the future and to support transportation systems management and operations today, a digital approach with edge and fog computing is necessary. As millions of messages per second are acquired from devices that reveal things like weather patterns and traffic status, data becomes increasingly meaningful for keeping roadways safer and travel smoother. More importantly, being able to harness that data and transform it into automated or real-time decision making not only can improve traffic flow, but can also reduce accidents and increase situational awareness. Join us in this session as we not only explore a digital approach to transforming roadways, but also take a look at the partner landscape and share real-world success stories showcasing critical outcomes and taking transportation to the next level.

Smart Mobility Stage

The Smart Mobility Stage takes place within the overall conference program at the ITS America Annual Meeting in Detroit, June 4-7, 2018. The Smart Mobility Stage will be in a prime location featured on the exhibit floor.

This program builds off of the tremendous success of the Smart Cities Stage at the 2017 ITS World Congress in Montréal.  As intelligent transportation systems are at the center of a modernized smart mobility plan, the Smart Mobility Stage will bring together thought leaders, cutting edge visionaries, leading technology companies and manufacturers, to discuss, debate and advise on the trends and future of intelligent mobility.  Topics may cover such areas as IoT, AV, Cybersecurity, Standards, Mobility Technology platforms, Public Safety and Health, Cloud solutions, Wireless connectivity, Smart Cities, and more.
